28th Session of the Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD)

28th Session of the Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD)

The 28th session of the Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD) will be held from 7–11 April 2025 in Geneva, Switzerland. This year’s session will focus on two priority themes:

  1. Diversifying economies in a world of accelerated digitalization
  2. Technology foresight and technology assessment for sustainable development

The session will also provide a platform for discussions on science, technology, and innovation (STI) policy reviews and track progress in implementing the outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS).

The CSTD, as a subsidiary body of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), serves as the UN focal point for STI for development. The UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) hosts the Commission’s secretariat, and the forum offers a space for strategic planning and sharing insights on critical trends in STI, including emerging technologies and best practices.

The Commission will also examine how information and communications technologies (ICTs) can act as enablers in achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
