Jane Podmore Applied for Over 5,000 Jobs but Remains Hopeful

Despite facing challenges, Jane Podmore, a 57-year-old woman who has been unemployed since 2019, has applied for more than 5,000 jobs in four years without success. However, she remains optimistic and continues her search for work.

Blackpool, February 27, 2025 – Jane Podmore, 57, has been struggling to find employment since losing her job in 2019 after being furloughed by Blackpool Council. Over the last four years, she has applied for more than 5,000 jobs but has not been successful in securing one, despite reaching the final selection stages multiple times.

Ms. Podmore believes her age is a significant factor in her ongoing job hunt, saying, "I have 10 years before I get my pension and I want to work and need the money for my security." Nevertheless, she remains positive, citing her grandchildren and dog as sources of joy during her unemployment.

At a recent jobs fair in Blackpool, Podmore met face-to-face with at least 10 potential employers, which gave her renewed hope. She mentioned that she has received contact details and is optimistic about finally landing a job.

Blackpool's unemployment rate stands at 7%, higher than the national average of 4.4%. The jobs fair was organized by Blackpool South Labour MP Chris Webb, who aims to break the cycle of low income in the town.
